In a separate but equally important story, the mother of a deceased woman has accused her daughter’s in-laws of demanding dowry and subjecting her to abuse. The victim, Athulya Shekhar, 29, originally from Chavara, kerala, died under tragic circumstances in Sharjah. Following her death, her husband, Satheesh, 40, has been detained by kerala Police at thiruvananthapuram International airport as the sole accused in the case.
Her parents reported that Athulya had been enduring repeated harassment and physical abuse at the hands of her husband and in-laws and had confided in them about her struggles. They had urged her to leave the abusive situation. The incident has sent shockwaves through her community, highlighting the ongoing issue of dowry-related violence in India. Athulya's body was repatriated to kerala shortly after her death on July 19, where a post-mortem examination was conducted. Her family is seeking justice, calling for the harshest penalties for those responsible.
