With the Vice Presidential election scheduled for 9 september 2025, the national democratic alliance (NDA) has intensified preparations to ensure maximum participation from its Members of parliament (MPs). prime minister Narendra Modi will host a dinner for all nda MPs on 8 September as part of the final push toward victory. Here’s a breakdown of the key developments.

1. High-Stakes election Scheduled for 9 September

The nda nominee, CP Radhakrishnan, former governor of Maharashtra, will face Sudershan Reddy, ex-Supreme court judge and india bloc candidate.

A total of 782 MPs (Lok Sabha + Rajya Sabha, including nominated members) are eligible to vote.

The winning candidate requires at least 392 votes, assuming full turnout.

2. nda Mobilises All 425 MPs

Party sources confirm that Union Ministers and senior MPs are tasked with ensuring complete attendance.

State-level monitoring is underway to coordinate travel arrangements for MPs to delhi before polling day.

The nda already commands around 55% vote share and is working to push it beyond 60%.

3. Strategy Workshops for MPs

Three-day training sessions will familiarise MPs with voting protocols.

Topics include correct ballot marking, using the pen provided by the election Officer, and folding ballots properly to avoid invalid votes.

Since the election is a secret ballot, no whip applies—making training vital to minimise cross-voting.

4. Dinner Diplomacy by PM Modi

On 8 September, prime minister Narendra Modi will host a strategy dinner for nda MPs.

The dinner aims to reinforce alliance unity, clarify voting procedures, and discuss last-minute coordination.

5. Securing Additional Support

Apart from NDA’s 425 MPs, the alliance is seeking external backing.

YSR congress Party (11 MPs) has already pledged support, taking nda comfortably above the majority mark.

Efforts are ongoing to woo Biju Janata Dal (BJD – 7 MPs) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to further strengthen margins.

6. Previous Records Set a High Benchmark

In the 2022 Vice Presidential election, nda candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar secured a record 74.4% vote share—the widest winning margin in history.

Replicating this number will be challenging, but the alliance is focused on achieving a decisive victory.

7. Opposition Gears Up Too

The india bloc has fielded Sudershan Reddy, a respected jurist, hoping to rally Opposition MPs and smaller regional parties.

The contest is expected to be intense, with both sides working to consolidate floating votes.

8. What Lies Ahead?

With less than a week to go, the nda leadership is leaving nothing to chance—deploying a mix of workshops, strategic dinners, and alliance-building to secure a smooth victory. The final verdict will be known when votes are counted on 9 September.
