Chennai: tamil Nadu chief minister M. K. stalin inaugurated newly installed name boards for several roads and streets in Chennai, renaming them in honour of legendary music personalities.
As part of the initiative, Chennai’s D. Mundy Road has been officially renamed after the iconic composer M. S. Viswanathan, fondly known as “Mellisai Mannar” (King of Light Music).
Honouring Musical Legends
In addition to M.S. Viswanathan, streets have also been named after renowned playback singers:
· Tiruchi Loganathan
· Sirkazhi Govindarajan
The renaming ceremony recognizes their immense contributions to tamil music and cinema, preserving their legacy in the city’s cultural landscape.
Celebrating tamil Nadu’s Cultural Heritage
Speaking at the event, the chief minister highlighted the lasting influence of these artists on tamil music and society. He noted that their songs transcended generations and continue to inspire music lovers across the state and beyond.
By naming roads and streets after them, the government aims to ensure that their contributions remain etched in public memory.

M.S. Viswanathan composed music for hundreds of tamil films and played a transformative role in shaping the sound of South indian cinema. Similarly, Tiruchi Loganathan and Sirkazhi Govindarajan left a profound mark through their distinctive voices and devotional as well as film songs.
The unveiling of the name boards symbolizes tamil Nadu’s respect for artistic excellence and its commitment to honouring those who enriched its cultural and musical heritage.
