Due to Israel's world-first booster injection campaign and several limitations implemented in recent weeks, a fresh wave of COVID infection, sparked by the delta variant, has been quelled. According to experts from the Hebrew university of Jerusalem, if existing limitations are maintained, combined with a continuous booster push, the average number of individuals infected by each coronavirus carrier will drop to 0.85 in the second week of September.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, 1,872,056 Israelis have already gotten their third Pfizer vaccination injection, with 99,937 of them receiving it on thursday alone.

Israel's booster campaign is on track to reach the 2-million mark by the end of the week, based on current immunisation rates. The first and second injections have been given to 5,464,619 persons so far. This statistic includes the 1.8 million people who were given a second chance.

The number of severe COVID cases across the country as of friday morning was 689, a small reduction from the previous day. This is a preliminary statistic that may vary during the day.

According to the researchers, the rate of new critical cases has also reduced, indicating that they "don't foresee a major increase in the number of patients hospitalised in serious condition."

According to the scientists' hypothesis, unvaccinated persons aged 60 and higher will account for the great majority of severe cases.
