Human selfishness has piled up plastic waste in the oceans, posing a serious threat to the world's current survival. Several attempts are still being taken by environmental campaigners to reclaim marine and live species from plastic garbage. The WAVES OF CHANGE project, run by the Kanchipuram-based organisation Hand in Hand India, is one such endeavour.

Since august 2020, the project has been in operation to avoid the entry of plastic garbage into coastal areas and to keep the sea clean. The project is located on the east Coast Road between Cholinganallur and Mamallapuram, a 35-kilometer span.

• Preventing plastic garbage from infiltrating marine and coastal environments, and implementing a proper plastic waste management strategy
• Avoid using single-use plastic products.
• Establishing lucrative green small companies as a viable alternative to plastic products.
• Reducing the pollution produced by plastic trash in the environment.
• Widespread adoption of the world's most advanced waste management technologies on a local level.

On Thursday, an awareness session named "Ocean without Eggs" was held as part of the project. A ballroom competition, a wall painting competition, a competition to make trash artefacts, an exhibition hall for alternative materials to plastic, and a grocery store offering natural products were all part of the event.
