
Youth in the country are wandering for jobs. The number of such unemployed youths was 5.1 percent in the month of April. For the first time, this data of unemployment has been released on a monthly basis in the country. In this unemployment data released on thursday by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, it has been told that among the unemployed youth, the number of men is much higher than that of women.
Higher unemployment among men
The unemployment rate among men was 5.2 percent, while this rate was 5 percent among women. During this time, the unemployment rate among people in the age group of 15 to 29 across the country was 13.8 percent. If we talk about urban areas, the unemployment rate here was 17.2 percent, while in rural areas it was 12.3 percent. During this study, it has also been found that the unemployment rate among women in the age group of 15 to 29 years was 14.4 percent across the country (rural and urban), while it was 23.7 in cities and 10.7 in villages.
The unemployment rate among men in the age group of 15 to 29 years in the country was recorded at 13.6 percent, while it was 15 percent in cities and 13 percent in villages. Data shows that during the month of april 2025, the labor force participation rate (LFPR) among people aged 15 years and above was 55.6 percent. The participation rate in rural areas was 58.0 percent while it was 50.7 percent in urban areas. The LFPR among men aged 15 years and above in rural and urban areas was 79.0 percent and 75.3 percent respectively.
Monthly unemployment data for the first time
The labour force participation rate among women aged 15 years and above in rural areas was 38.2 per cent during the month of april 2025. LFPR refers to the percentage of persons included in the labour force (i.e. working, seeking work or available for work) in the population. Workforce population ratio (WPR) defines the proportion of employed people in the total population. The data shows that the WPR among people aged 15 years and above in rural areas was 55.4 per cent in April. This ratio was 47.4 per cent in urban areas in april, while the overall WPR at the national level was recorded at 52.8 per cent.
