These 16 drugs include Diclofenac with Paracetamol, medicines used for nasal congestion, and anti-allergic drugs. Apart from this, an antiseptic and disinfectant agent, chlorhexidine, a mouthwash used in the treatment of gingivitis, has also been kept.
The government is preparing to put Paracetamol used in fever and 16 other medicines of common use on the over-the-counter list by changing the rules. That is, to buy these medicines, a doctor's prescription will no longer be required. A gazette notification has been issued in this regard by the Ministry of Health.

The report released in this regard said that these 16 drugs include Diclofenac with Paracetamol, drugs used for nasal closure, and anti-allergic drugs. Apart from this, these include antiseptic and disinfectant agents, chlorhexidine mouthwash used to treat gingivitis, a medicine used to treat cough, anti-bacterial acne formulations, anti-fungal creams, analgesic cream formulations, and anti-allergy capsules.
The health Ministry has issued a gazette notification to amend the drugs Regulation Act 1945 so that these drugs can be included in OTC. With this, retailers will be able to sell it without a doctor's prescription. Its purpose is to increase the access to common use medicines the people. The proposed changes would allow these drugs to be sold without a prescription and would be easier for the public to access.
