Ponniyin Selvan 2: Conclusion of the second part...??

With less than three days to the release of one of tamil cinema's most eagerly anticipated sequels, ponniyin selvan 2, moviegoers are curious to see how mani ratnam will wrap up the second part. Distributors have scheduled a record release in the US, where advance ticket sales started first.

The tamil Nadu bookings, which started on saturday evening, were the focus of all attention. Cinephiles were shocked to discover that only shows beginning at 9 am were included in the booking charts. This was the situation in all of the state's top single screens and multiplexes.

The early morning shows were never added by exhibitors, despite popular belief to the contrary. Apparently, a directive from the Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management prohibiting the practice was issued when Thunivu and Varisu were published earlier this year with multiple special presentations in the early morning.

In a GO, they urged exhibitors not to promote these unique events and warned that harsh measures would be taken if the regulations governing movie screenings were broken. The GO also stated that no large cutouts should be placed inside movie theatres.

This decision has been disappointing for the exhibitors, especially as they had anticipated a strong opening day for ponniyin selvan 2. Recent prominent films like Vaathi by Dhanush, Agilan by jayam Ravi, and Pathu Thala by silambarasan were also denied special screenings. Surpassing ponniyin selvan 1's day one numbers currently appears to be nearly impossible.
