Krishna was first considered as the lead when filmmaker A Kodanda Ramireddy wanted to produce a movie that was partially based on the hollywood blockbuster "First Blood" but the actor refused it. After a few more rejections, he eventually discovered that emerging young star chiranjeevi was a good match for the part, and the rest is history. You guessed it—the movie's first applause came from superstar Krishna.

Today is the 40th anniversary of the film's release, which took place on october 28 of that year. As a result of Khaidi's enormous box office success, chiranjeevi was dubbed the next action hero and went on to become the biggest star in the telugu cinema business. megastar demanded around ₹2 lacs in compensation, even for Khaidi, which at the time caused quite a stir. "Khaidi is a significant turning point in my career as well as a sensation. As the movie approaches its 40th anniversary of release, chiru stated, "It made me a lifetime prisoner in the hearts of the telugu audience."

As he states, "#40YearsOfKhaidi," "#DecadesForKhaidi," and producers A Kodanda Ramireddy, among many others, are all praised by Megastar. Beyond Megastar's sombre appearance and choreography throughout the songs, the movie also served as a model for action movie production in tollywood for the next ten or so years.
