Kerala international Film festival Update
The 30th international Film festival of kerala (IFFK) is being held in thiruvananthapuram from december 12 to 19.
Recently, the screening of some films was temporarily stopped, causing concern among audiences and filmmakers.
Rasul Pookutty, associated with the festival, addressed the controversy and provided clarity on the matter.
All Films to Be Screened on Schedule
Rasul Pookutty shared a video message stating, “I am happy to inform you that all the controversies surrounding the film screenings at the kerala international Film festival have ended. We will screen all the films according to the schedule as per the notification issued by the kerala government. Long live cinema!”
The festival organizers reaffirmed that all films will be screened on time, despite earlier delays and controversies.
Reason Behind Screening Halt
The kerala Chalachitra Academy initially halted 15 films due to lack of official censor board certification.
Some of the affected films included cult classics and films related to the Palestinian conflict.
Four of these films received censor exemption on Monday, while the remaining awaited approval from the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The decision to halt the screenings was linked to compliance and censorship protocols, but also raised concerns about freedom of expression.
Government Intervention and Discussions
The kerala government discussed the matter with the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ensure smooth screening of the pending films.
After discussions, the festival authorities decided to proceed with all scheduled screenings.
The move highlights the balance between regulatory requirements and artistic freedom in film festivals.
Festival Schedule and Significance
The 30th IFFK continues to showcase a variety of films from india and abroad.
Despite initial disruptions, the festival remains on track, preserving its reputation as a platform for diverse cinema and global storytelling.
