Subsidized flour (Pakistan Aata) has become very important amidst inflation in Pakistan. A stampede took place on saturday in the Mirpur Khas district of Sindh province to get cheap flour. A man, the father of six children, died in the stampede. According to the report, flour has become so expensive in many areas of pakistan that a 50 kg sack of flour is available for Rs.3100. This was the reason that as soon as people got the news, they gathered in large numbers to get the flour. Similar stampedes have taken place in many other areas to buy flour and dozens of people have been injured.
According to the news of The Express Tribune, the stampede took place near the commissioner's office of Mirpur Khas. Here two mini trucks carrying 200 bags each were selling flour outside Gulistan-e-Baldia Park. 10 kg bags of flour were being sold by mini trucks for Rs 65 apiece. people gathered in a crowd and started pushing and shoving to get the flour. According to the police, 40-year-old labourer Harsingh Kolhi fell on the road during the commotion and was crushed to death by the people around him, The Express Tribune reported.
There is a shortage of flour in Sindh
Kolhi's family staged a sit-in for five hours outside the Mirpurkhas press Club, demanding action against the officials of the Food Department. The police told them that the accident's perpetrators would be held accountable before they left. Till now the FIR has not been lodged in the incident.
