The suggestions given by prime minister Narendra Modi at the johannesburg Summit will increase mutual
cooperation between the BRICS countries. Along with this, the importance of BRICS will also increase for the
challenges and problems present in the world. It is also clear from prime minister Modi's suggestion that he
wants the scope of BRICS not to be limited only to the member countries, but to increase the usefulness of this
group at the global level.
Voice of the Global South
Such was the occasion of the annual summit of BRICS countries in which only 5 countries are permanent
members. But prime minister Modi also expressed the concerns of the countries of the Global South in his
address. He said that at present the countries of Global South should get a special importance in BRICS. He
made it clear that this is not an expectation, but also a necessity of the global system.
Along with this, prime minister Narendra Modi also mentioned the steps taken by india to give importance to
the voice of the Global South. As the G20 President, this is one of India's top priorities. In january this year,
India organized the Voice of Global South Summit. 125 countries took part in it, through which less developed
or less developed as well as poorest of the poor countries got a chance to put their problems and priorities in
front of the world.
India wants to ensure the representation of African countries in the G20 as president. For this, india has also
proposed to make African Union a permanent member of G20. All the BRICS countries are also members of the
G20 group. PM Modi appealed to the rest of the BRICS countries to support the proposal to make the African
Union a permanent member of the G20. It is expected that this proposal of india will be approved in the G20
Summit to be held on 9 and 10 September. If this happens then it will be a big achievement for India. Along with
this, the trust of the countries of the Global South on india will be strengthened and the self-confidence of those
countries will also increase.
