EV revolution in delhi, every vehicle will be electric!
Now the sound of change is being heard on the streets of Delhi. There is a possibility of the blanket of smoke being removed in the coming days. This is being said because the new dawn of electric vehicles is about to knock. The delhi government is going to hold a cabinet meeting today (April 15) regarding EV (Electric Vehicle) Policy 2.0, where this draft policy will be discussed.
95 percent electric vehicles by 2027
According to government officials, after the draft is approved, the Transport Department will make it public on its website and seek suggestions from the general public and related stakeholders. Under this new policy, the government aims to have 95 percent of the vehicles registered in delhi electric by the year 2027, and by 2030 this figure should reach 100 percent.
First EV policy and its impact
It is worth noting that in the year 2020, the aam aadmi party government implemented the EV policy for the first time, with the aim of making 25 percent of vehicles electric by 2024. However, till now only 9.39 percent of vehicles in delhi have been able to become electric.
Attractive subsidy in new policy
Many attractive subsidies are proposed for the public in the new policy. Subsidy will be available on buying e-cars up to Rs 20 lakh. Along with this, to encourage women, women who buy the first 100 e-two-wheelers will be given a direct discount of Rs 30,000.
Change in registration for e-vehicles
An official said, "Under the new policy, only e-two-wheeler and e-auto registration will be given priority from next year. Taxi and cab services will also be targeted to shift to electric mode." Apart from this, there may also be a provision of compensation or subsidy on scrapping old petrol, cng and diesel vehicles. Interestingly, to register a third vehicle at the same address, it will be mandatory for it to be an electric vehicle. This policy will not only clean Delhi's air but will also set an example for adopting EVs across the country.
