The Special Security Group (SPG) is responsible for the security of the prime minister of India. It is a special force that ensures the security of not only the prime minister, but also his family and former Prime Ministers. You must have often seen that SPG commandos who are seen in black suits and black glasses carry a black suitcase in their hands. This suitcase has always been a matter of curiosity for people. What is in this suitcase? Does it contain weapons? Let's find out.
Who are SPG commandos?
SPG is a highly skilled security force. They are often seen walking with the prime minister wearing black suits and black glasses and carrying a briefcase in their hands. During the PM's rallies, they are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons.
What is in the black suitcase?
The SPG commandos deployed in the security of the PM carry a briefcase which is a specially designed portable bulletproof shield, also known as a ballistic shield. This shield is capable of stopping bullets of small-caliber weapons and can be used as a protective shield by opening it immediately in an emergency. This shield can be easily opened by jerking it downwards, so that it can provide protection to the prime minister or other VIPs in a few seconds. Apart from this, this suitcase has a secret pocket in which a special pistol is kept. This pistol is to counter the attackers in an emergency.
How is the training of SPG?
The training and equipment of SPG commandos are also as advanced as this suitcase. These commandos are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons like FNF-2000 assault rifle, Glock 17 and 19 pistols and FN SCAR rifle. Apart from this, they have bulletproof jackets, non-slip shoes and special gloves. The reason for wearing goggles is also related to safety. These glasses not only hide their sight, but also protect their eyes from the bright light of an explosion.
When was SPG formed?
SPG was formed in 1984 after the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi. Its main purpose is to protect VIPs from all kinds of threats. The commandos carrying this suitcase always remain closest to the prime minister, so that they can immediately identify any suspicious activity.
