Chennai:
Tamil Nadu has provided entrepreneurship training to 50.19 lakh (5.019 million) individuals over the past four and a half years, said minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), T.M. Anbarasan, during an event held in chennai on Wednesday.

The minister inaugurated a newly constructed hostel facility at the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII) campus in Guindy, Chennai. The hostel, built at a cost of 2.34 crore, is specifically designed to accommodate students enrolled in the institute’s certificate courses in entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the inauguration, minister Anbarasan highlighted the state government’s continuous efforts to promote entrepreneurship and innovation across tamil Nadu. He said the new 120-bed hostel will greatly benefit aspiring entrepreneurs who come from various parts of the state to undergo training at EDII.
“This facility will ensure that trainees can stay on campus, interact closely with faculty, and receive uninterrupted guidance during their course period,” he said.

The minister also outlined the various initiatives undertaken by the state to encourage innovation among youth. Under the Innovation Voucher Program, designed to promote novel ideas and technological advancements, the government has sanctioned 35.63 lakh in financial assistance to 20 new innovators. These funds will help the selected innovators refine their concepts, conduct research, and move toward commercialization of their products or services.

In recognition of exemplary achievements, five women entrepreneurs, who successfully established and expanded their businesses after receiving entrepreneurship training, were presented with special awards during the event. minister Anbarasan emphasized that promoting women entrepreneurs remains a key priority of the state government, as they play a vital role in economic development and job creation.

He further added that the government’s entrepreneurship development programs—including skill-building, training modules, innovation funding, and mentorship support—have created a strong foundation for MSME growth in tamil Nadu. The training of over 50 lakh people, he noted, stands as proof of the government’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The event was attended by EDII officials, faculty members, trainees, MSME representatives, and several dignitaries from the industrial sector.
