Athletes will be awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Rashtriya sports Award at a function in New delhi on november 13.
The sports Ministry will felicitate the winners of this year's National sports Awards during an event in New delhi on november 13.
During this, 12 sportspersons including Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in tokyo Olympics, will be honoured with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.
All these 12 players have proved their mettle with their performance in the last year. Chhetri will also be the first footballer from the country to receive this honour. Along with this, 35 players including tennis player Ankita Raina will be given arjuna Award.

Last year, five sportspersons were given the Khel Ratna award. At the same time, after the 2016 Rio Olympics, four players got the award. The names of more players were recommended this year after their stellar performances at the tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is given to sportspersons who have performed exceptionally well in the field of sports.
Grandmaster Viswanathan anand was awarded the Khel Ratna for the first time in the year 1991-92. The award carries a medal, a citation and Rs 25 lakh. At the same time, the oldest national sports award in india is the arjuna Award.
