Aman Sehrawat Disqualified from World Wrestling championship Due to Overweight

India’s hopes for a medal at the World Wrestling championship 2025 faced a major blow as Olympic bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat was disqualified from the tournament in Zagreb, Croatia. The reason: his weight exceeded the permissible limit for his category.

⚖️ 1.7 kg Overweight in 57 kg Category

Aman was set to compete in the Men’s Freestyle 57 kg category.

During the official pre-competition weigh-in, he was found to be 1.7 kilograms over the weight limit.

A team official stated, “It is shocking and unacceptable. We do not understand how his weight increased so much.”

📅 Had Ample Time to Adjust

Aman reached Zagreb on august 25, along with other indian wrestlers for an acclimatization camp.

This camp was meant to help athletes adjust and meet competition requirements — including weight.

Despite having over two weeks, he failed to make weight.

🏟️ Trains at Chhatrasal Stadium

Aman Sehrawat is a product of the renowned Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi.

At just 22 years old, he was one of India’s strongest medal hopes for this championship.

His paris Olympics 2024 bronze had raised expectations from fans and officials alike.

🧠 A Costly Oversight

The indian wrestling federation is reportedly concerned and disappointed over the issue.

Controlling weight is considered a basic and essential discipline in wrestling.

This oversight has cost india a potential World championship medal.

🧬 Recalling Vinesh Phogat’s Similar Incident

The situation is similar to Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification at Paris Olympics 2024.

Vinesh was found to be 100 grams overweight before her 50 kg freestyle final.

She too was disqualified, and india lost another medal opportunity.
