AC will become the most used home appliance by 2050, demand will increase up to 3 times

Air conditioner

Due to changes in weather and increasing heat, the demand for AC is continuously increasing. By 2050, it can become the most used home appliance.

AC use has increased 3 times since 2010. Today, due to increasing heat and increase in income, people are buying ACs extensively and out of every 100 houses, 24 people have an AC connection. The international Energy Agency said on tuesday that electricity consumption due to space cooling will increase by 2019 and 2022. It has increased by 21% between 2010 and today with approximately 10% of electricity demand coming from space cooling requirements. That means, along with the demand for AC, electricity consumption is also increasing.

According to HT report

IEA's World Energy Outlook has estimated that by 2050, the use of domestic air conditioners could increase by 9 times, which will overtake the use of all other home appliances including televisions, refrigerators, and washing machines.

Electricity provided to more than 80 crore people

According to the IEA, since 2010, india has provided electricity to 81 crore people, which is more than the combined populations of the european union and the United States. At the same time, clean cooking facilities have also been provided to 655 million people during the same period. However, even today 43 crore people live in houses using traditional biomass and earn their living from it.

Demand increased due to climate change and increasing income

According to the report, in the last 5 decades, india has witnessed more than 700 heat waves in which more than 17,000 people have lost their lives. Due to the changing climate and increasing income, the use of air conditioners is continuously increasing, which has tripled since 2010 to 24 units per 100 houses. The IEA report states that this does not necessarily mean that 24% of homes have air conditioners, but rather that among them, 24 out of 100 homes have ACs, while some are likely to have multiple ACs. That means there is more than one AC.
