Vijay Kumar Shukla alias munna Shukla has suffered a setback in the murder case of former bihar minister Brij Bihari Prasad. The supreme court has upheld the life imprisonment sentence awarded to criminal-turned-politician munna Shukla. On october 3 last year, the apex court had convicted Shukla and Mantu Tiwari in the case.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar and R mahadevan dismissed the petition of Shukla and a co-convict seeking review of the apex court's verdict. The bench said in its May 6 order, "There is no basis to review the october 3, 2024 verdict." The supreme Court's verdict has been uploaded recently. The prayer for hearing the review petitions in open court was also rejected.

Brij Bihari Prasad murder case

The apex court partially set aside the patna High Court's decision to acquit all the accused and gave 15 days' time to convicted former mla Shukla and Tiwari to serve life imprisonment. The bench also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on both Shukla and Tiwari under sections of the indian Penal Code (IPC). However, the apex court upheld the High Court's decision to acquit five others, including former mp Suraj Bhan Singh, giving them the benefit of doubt.

The murder of Brij Bihari Prasad, husband of former bjp mp Rama Devi, had shaken the police of bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Brij Bihari prasad was murdered by Gorakhpur gangster Shriprakash Shukla. Shriprakash Shukla was later killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh STF. The apex court said, "The charges against Mantu Tiwari and Vijay Kumar Shukla alias munna Shukla for the murder of Brij Bihari prasad and bodyguard Laxmeshwar Sahu have been proved beyond reasonable doubt." The bench said that the charge of attempt to murder has also been proved against munna Shukla and Mantu Tiwari. Two other accused Bhupendra Nath Dubey and Captain sunil Singh died during the proceedings. Mantu Tiwari is the nephew of Rama Devi's political rival Devendranath Dubey. Bhupendra Nath Dubey and Devendranath Dubey were brothers. Devendra Nath Dubey was fielded by the Samajwadi party against RJD's then candidate Rama Devi. SP candidate Devendra Nath Dubey was murdered on february 23, 1998, a day before the re-poll for Motihari lok sabha constituency.
