· banana stem – 1 medium, tender
· Grated coconut – 2 tablespoons
· Green chilies – 2, slit

· urad dal – 1 teaspoon
· Dry red chili – 1, broken
· curry leaves – 1 sprig
· turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
· salt – as required
· oil – 1 tablespoon
Preparation:
1. Peel the banana stem and remove the hard fibers. Chop it finely into thin strips and soak in water with a little turmeric or lemon juice to prevent discoloration.
2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add urad dal, dry red chili, and curry leaves. Sauté until the dal turns golden.
3. Add slit green chilies and turmeric powder, stir for a few seconds.
4. Drain the banana stem and add it to the pan. Mix well and cover, cooking on low heat for 8–10 minutes until slightly tender but still crunchy.
5. Add grated coconut, mix well, and cook for another 2 minutes. Serve warm as a side dish with rice.
