In madurai Narayanapuram, a 35 km long connecting bridge collapsed during the construction and it was one of the longest flying bridges in tamil Nadu and it is built at a cost of Rs.679 Crores. In this sudden collapse, an Uttar Pradesh worker was trapped in the rubble and died and the work of rescuing others is in full swing right now.

A new four-lane road from madurai to Natham is being constructed at a cost of Rs.1020 Crores for a distance of 28 Kilometers. To avoid traffic congestion on this road in urban areas, a huge flyover will be constructed at a distance of 7.3 Kilometers and at a cost of Rs.679 Crores, and the Construction works began during the year 2018.

192 majestic pillars are erected to support the flyover and this flyover and four lanes will be constructed to ease traffic congestion and reduce the distance to 20 km from madurai to Trichy via Natham. This bridge is considered to be the longest bridge in tamil Nadu and is considered to be the first bridge to be constructed using segmental type technology.

At exactly 5.25 pm, a 35-meter-long concrete girder between the two pillars collapsed due to a technical glitch. The concrete girder, which weighed several hundred tons, collapsed in two with a terrifying noise, and all the workers were scattered on all four sides as they worked under the granite bridge in anticipation of the collapse of the concrete curb. Unfortunately, some workers were trapped in the rubble and the rescue crews sent them to a madurai government hospital for treatment and in this, unfortunately, one of them died.
