Anti-idol smuggling cops detained four persons, including a bjp official and two cops, for attempting to sell seven Swami statues for Rs 5 crore, including those from the historic Natarajar temple. The madurai Idol Smuggling Prevention Unit received information a few days ago that Alexander from Mudukulathur in the Ramanathapuram district was attempting to unlawfully trade archaic Swami statues. 

Following this, the madurai Idol Smuggling Squad commanded by DSP Malaichamy hunted down alex and arrested him at Ramanathapuram on the 2nd under the supervision of Dinakaran, the head of the Idol Smuggling Prevention Unit. He possessed a total of seven statues, according to the inquest. He said that Aruppukottai police policeman Ilangumaran and Virudhunagar resident Karubusamy sold him the statues.

Ilangumaran and Karuppuchamy were arrested based on his information. Ilangumaran Dindigul Armed Policeman Naganarendran, Virudhunagar district, Ganesan and Karuppusamy from Tiruthangalai, and four others learned that the idols were for sale at a residence in the salem Edappadi foothills during their interrogation four years ago. The police were the unit in charge, and they claimed to have taken the idols. According to the probe, bjp executive Alexander was selling the statues for roughly Rs 5 crore.
