The current hijab controversy in karnataka has spurred reactions from lawmakers to actors throughout the country. Sonam Kapoor, who is renowned for her strong opinions, posted a photo on instagram Stories of a man wearing a turban and a woman wearing a hijab, questioning why a turban can be worn but a hijab cannot. In a handful of posts on his twitter handle, bjp leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticised the actress for equating a turban to a hijab.

Sira tweeted a photo of Sonam's instagram post, saying, "Dastar, also known as "Dast-e-Yar," meaning "God's hand." It is not a decision, but rather a blessing from Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji and a vital aspect of the Sikh identity. In this scenario, comparing Dastar and Hijab is unjustified and unwelcome." In another tweet, the bjp member urged the 'Padman' actress not to engage in a'veiled assault,' writing, "@sonamakapoor, you have an option. Do not launch a veiled attack! For a Sikh, the turban is and always will be inseparable! Sikhs have been fighting tyranny since the 17th decades and will continue to do so."

Sirsa had already taken aim at Nobel prize winner Malala Yousafzai. "Refusing to allow girls go to school in their hijabs is horrible," the Nobel Peace prize laureate tweeted in response to a news on the hijab debate in Karnataka. women are still objectified based on how much or how little they wear. "Indian politicians must put an end to Muslim women's marginalisation."
