Next Chief of Defense Staff of the country!!!


After waiting for about 10 months, the central government has announced the name of the next Chief of Defense Staff of the country. Retired Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan will take over as the country's second CDS as the chief of the three services. CDS works as a single commander of the indian army, air Force and Navy. The first posting on this post was made by General Bipin Rawat, who was martyred in a helicopter crash in december last year. Since then this post was running vacant, the search for the second CDS of the country was going on.


Know what is Chief of Defense Staff

This is the highest rank of an officer in the indian army, Navy and air Force. The Chiefs of the three services report to the Chief of Defense Staff. The role of the CDS is also that of the Chief Defense Advisor to the Ministry of Defense. The CDS also plays the role of Secretary in the Department of Military Affairs, Ministry of Defence.

The post of CDS was created for the first time in the country on january 1, 2020. The then indian army Chief General Bipin Rawat was first elected CDS. General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in december 2021.

General Chauhan's training was completed at the National Defense Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, pune and the indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. After this, he was commissioned as an officer in the 11th Gorkha Rifles of the indian army in the year 1981. Before his retirement, he served in the army for about 40 years. In his long career, he has received Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).

Even after retirement, prime minister Narendra Modi did not distance himself from General Chauhan. He has been constantly consulted on national security and strategic matters.
