Adenovirus warning: 4 more child deaths...
As four more children who had been admitted to a hospital in kolkata with adenovirus symptoms died in the previous six hours, bringing the total number of children killed by the virus to 40 in just nine days, it appears that the adenovirus threat in West bengal is taking on alarming dimensions.
Atifa Khatun, 18 months, and Aarman Gazi, 4 years old, had passed away by sunday morning, according to reports from the B.C. Roy Children's Hospital. However, by 4 p.m., the same hospital had recorded four more child fatalities, bringing the total for the day to six.
Four hospitalised children died between the hours of 10.30 a.m. and 4 p.m., according to hospital sources, but their names have not yet been released.
All of the children reported to have passed away in the previous 13 hours were receiving treatment for symptoms characteristic of an adenovirus, such as fever, coughing, and breathing difficulties, but the treatment did not produce any signs of improvement.
The state's health department has already issued a warning for medical professionals, particularly paediatricians, to take extra precautions with children who are hospitalised with flu-like symptoms, especially those under the age of two because they are most susceptible to Adenovirus infection. Adenovirus typically causes flu-like symptoms like a cold, temperature, wheezing, sore throat, pneumonia, and acute bronchitis.
