To maintain law and order in the midst of the state-wide Bandh call, the karnataka police have detained over 50 members of pro-Kannada organisations protesting the Cauvery River water dispute near Bengaluru.
This big story's guide:
At the Kempegowda international airport in Bengaluru, 44 flights that were scheduled to depart and arrive early on friday have been cancelled, of which 22 were incoming and 22 were departing. According to airport officials, there were operational reasons for it, and passengers were promptly informed. Sources claimed that the karnataka Bandh was to blame for the cancellations, as many passengers had done so.
A protester's effigy of tamil Nadu chief minister MK stalin was burned in Chikkamangalur as he rode his motorbike into a petrol bunker to express his displeasure. Protesters in Bengaluru were detained and taken to Freedom Park. Protesters rolled on the streets of Mandya.
A karnataka bandh against a directive guiding the karnataka government to distribute Cauvery water from the river to neighbouring tamil Nadu was announced by "Kannada Okkuta," an umbrella organisation of pro-Kannada groups, on Friday. This occurs two days after the Bengaluru bandh, which elicited conflicting reactions.
On friday, the bandh will last from 6 am to 6 pm. According to prohibitory orders issued by the Bengaluru City police under Section 144 of the criminal Procedure Code, no one is permitted to hold protests, rallies, or gatherings of more than five people. However, it's likely that pro-Kannada groups will take to the streets.
The bandh is supported by more than 1,900 associations. While Bengaluru's grocery stores and other non-essential businesses are anticipated to stay closed, vital services like hospitals, ambulances, and pharmacies will continue to run normally.
