The election commission of india moved the Mizoram assembly elections to december 4 on Friday. The counting was originally scheduled for sunday, december 3. In its statement, the poll body stated that "several representations from various quarters" had asked that the assembly election result date be modified. The 3rd of december, being a sunday, has special importance for the people of Mizoram, according to the announcement.

"The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to revise the date of counting for the General election to the Legislative assembly of Mizoram from december 3 to december 4," the commission stated. Mizoram went to the elections in a single phase on november 7, and more than 80% of voters turned out.

"The Commission has received several representations from various quarters requesting for change in date of counting from 3rd december, 2023 (Sunday) to some other week day, on the ground that 3rd december, 2023 being sunday a special significance for the people of Mizoram," the election commission said in a statement.

"The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to revise the date of counting for the General election to the Legislative assembly of Mizoram from 3rd december, 2023 (Sunday) to 4th december, 2023 (Monday)," the election commission said in a statement.
