New information about the Katchatheevu island problem, according to prime minister Narendra Modi, "has unmasked DMK's double standards totally" on Monday. His words were made the day after he had criticised the congress for their choice in the 1970s to give the strategically important island to Sri Lanka.
 
In a post on X, the prime minister said, "Rhetoric aside, DMK has done NOTHING to safeguard tamil Nadu’s interests. New details emerging on #Katchatheevu have UNMASKED the DMK’s double standards totally."

"Congress and DMK are family units. They only care that their own sons and daughters rise. They don’t care for anyone else. Their callousness on Katchatheevu has harmed the interests of our poor fishermen and fisherwomen in particular," he added.

Tamil Nadu fisherman fish off the island of Katchatheevu. However, as soon as they cross the international Maritime Border Line (IMBL) to enter the island, they are taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Navy.
 
Prime minister Modi charged the congress of "weakening" the nation's integrity and interests on Sunday, in addition to criticising the party for ceding the island to Sri Lanka.
 
His comments were in reaction to a Right To Information (RTI) investigation that exposed the 1974 transfer of Katchatheevu from the congress administration, which was led by then-prime minister Indira Gandhi, to Sri Lanka.
 
"Starting and eye-opening! Recent information shows how congress heartlessly handed Katchatheevu away. This has infuriated every indian and reinforced the belief among the populace that we can never trust Congress! He tweeted, citing a media source, "For 75 years and counting, the congress has worked to weaken India's unity, integrity, and interests."
 
On Monday, the DMK and congress were lambasted by External Affairs minister S jaishankar for their handling of the Katchatheevu island dispute, stating that they "have approached this matter as though they have no responsibility for it".
