Kalai (Kavin) is a movie buff, and his photographer father (Lal) is a big supporter of him. A cinephile and aspiring actor, Kalai does it everything, from selling tickets to Thalaivar Rajinikanth's flicks to taking pictures with cutouts of him, Vijay, and Ajith. Like many young people, he attends an engineering institution after realizing that film is his genuine love.

With tremendous help from his friends, fiancée, and family—aside from his mother—he begins working towards it. Life throws a curveball at him just as he is about to realize his ambition. His confidence is destroyed, and he stops going to the movies as a result. The narrative centers on how he goes for his desire and rediscovers his enthusiasm.

Director Elan's coming-of-age movie follows Kalai's life from 1989 to 2015 and beyond. Elan's narrative resonates deeply with us since we have all had a buddy who is middle-class by birth yet aspires to be a successful movie star. And it still fascinates me so much since one of the main forms of amusement is films. These elements are the reason that "Star" created favorable anticipation months before its premiere. Sadly, though, the film fell short of the hype.

'Star' has so much potential, yet it stays surface level. The difficulties Kalai faces pass quickly. The narrative is hurried and seems to hurry from one poignant scene to the next, leaving little time for the viewer to absorb everything. Nevertheless, there are a few scenes in "Star" that catch your eye. The emotions are expertly portrayed, whether it is via the bond between Kalai and his father or his playful banter with his mother (Geetha Kailasam). The scenes in which Kalai attends an acting school in mumbai give his struggle a much-needed sense of gravity.

The Second half curse continues for tamil Cinema. The second half falters due to this tonal shift, but the first half remains faithful to the genre and Kavin's dream. Although it seems sense that Kalai is also struggling, this undermines the impression it gave off in the first part. The challenges eventually become surface-level. We witness Kalai's issues with mental health and family life, but we don't see how the film business operates, particularly when a novice is attempting to make a name for themselves without strong support. Yuvan's music is nothing extraordinary and he still struggles to get his old magic.

For "Star," Kavin's portrayal of Kalai is effective. It is largely successful and demonstrates how much he has grown as a performer. With his performance, Lal, who portrays Pandian, has won our hearts. The actress who plays meera Malarkodi, Preity Mukundhan, has a wonderful on-screen presence, and her relationship with Kavin is admirable. Three shocks were promised by the "Star" movie's creators. And each of the three surprises ends up being one of our favorite scenes in the movie. They develop into legitimate dramatic moments.

Overall, 'STAR' is a complete 'Yawn' fest!
