The actor was not in the car at the time of the accident, police said. The 39-year-old driver, S. Pushparaj, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz, had picked up Simha's father from his residence in Manapakkam to the Eekattuthangal Metro station and dropped him off. While returning home, the driver lost control of the vehicle while descending the Kathipara grade separation towards the Alandur Metro station, and rammed into seven vehicles, including two cars, three two-wheelers, and two autorickshaws. Three people, including a woman, were injured and are undergoing treatment at the government Royapettah Hospital.

The driver was drunk and tested positive for 400 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, police said. Pushparaj was arrested on charges of drunken driving, speeding, and attempting to murder. After being produced in court, he was remanded in judicial custody.
