Pakistan on wednesday (30 april 2025) announced the cancellation of all domestic flights to Gilgit and Skardu amid rising tensions with india after the pahalgam attack. An official said, "After reviewing the national airspace security protocol, it was decided to suspend flights to the northern areas. As a precaution, all other flights to the northern areas of pakistan were also temporarily stopped."

Increased monitoring of foreign flights

Strict monitoring of foreign flights was also started. According to the information, the pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was directed to check all incoming foreign aircraft.

Pakistan has already closed its airspace for indian airlines. In this regard, a Notice for Airmen (NOTAMN) was issued, banning indian airlines from Pakistan's skies initially for a month. Indian airlines including the Air India were banned from using Pakistani airspace. The restrictions also apply to the movement of indian military and VIP aircraft.

On april 22, terrorists opened fire on people (mostly tourists) in the Baisaran Valley in pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. At least 26 people were killed and many others injured in the attack.

Tensions between india and pakistan at peak

After the pahalgam attack, tensions between india and pakistan have reached a peak. New delhi took several tough diplomatic and strategic steps against Islamabad. These include suspending the 1960 Indus Water Treaty with immediate effect, closing the Attari Integrated Check Post, suspending visa services for Pakistani citizens with immediate effect, etc. After these decisions of india, pakistan took some decisions like suspending the shimla Agreement and closing its airspace for indian flights.
