When President trump hosted the African leader in the White House's Oval Office, he chose to play an audio-visual clip that the US president has connected to a "White genocide" in South Africa. President Ramaphosa, who appeared visibly upset at Donald Trump's unexpected attack, has refuted these claims.
A Friendly Start
According to South Africa, the claims that White people are being singled out and murdered there are completely untrue. While acknowledging the high murder rates in the nation, Pretoria and cape town have emphasized that Black people make up the vast majority of victims.
The two presidents' meeting got off to a cordial start when they discussed golf. President trump also gave the South African president high marks for the country's golfing prowess. Then, in an attempt to talk about commerce between the two countries, President Ramaphosa used Trump's new favorite word, the "T." A crucial minerals deal was also discussed by him.
AMBUSHED
Both leaders smiled and the talks were going smoothly. President trump sprung a surprise on the South African leader, targeting him over one of the most contentious areas of dispute between the countries - an alleged "White genocide". Heads turned as trump asked for a video to be played.
President Ramaphosa sat silently as it happened. The South African President turned around to catch a peek of it at some point in the video. Donald trump went on to claim that the video was evidence of a "White genocide" and that it featured the corpses of thousands of white farmers.
