At the moment, kamal haasan is occupied with promoting Thug Life, his upcoming release.  After nearly 38 years apart, the two legends reunite in this Mani Ratnam-directed film.  It's interesting to note that Kamal is so confident in the idea that he continued by saying Thug Life will surpass Nayagan.  If supporters are forced to take Kamal's statements with a grain of salt, it is causing them to feel conflicted. 

Kamal Haasan promoted many of his films in telugu and tamil throughout the years.  However, prior to the release of indian 2, Kamal's strategy for film promotion was quite different.  Prior to indian 2, kamal haasan would talk passionately about the story, the process, and the craft of his films.  He used to discuss the finer points of the film's production, but he never utilized his remarks to promote it.  He talked about how they made the movie instead of promoting it, even for a huge blockbuster like Vikram. 

He started saying during indian 2's promotion that indian 3 would surpass indian 2 in size and that everyone should look forward to that project.  According to the critics, this is partly because Kamal was aware of indian 2's demise and merely sought to repair the damage by making indian 3 more hyped than indian 2.  Some people also said that Kamal purposefully did that because he believed indian 3 would perform better.  Kamal also adopted the practice of promoting the movies for their premieres, according to some other remarks.  But only after the publication of indian 2 did everyone realize the significance of Kamal's remarks. 

Most unexpectedly, Kamal is also doing it for Thug Life.  In contrast to what they often do for their films, neither mani ratnam nor Kamal have provided adequate clarification on what the movie will be.  Everyone was taken aback when kamal haasan declared that Thug Life was greater than Nayagan.  In terms of gangster dramas, Nayagan is actually a film that is setting the standard in indian cinema.  For prospective filmmakers, Nayagan's production, performances, technical aspects, music, and everything else can be used as a case study.  Nayagan is still able to keep audiences of the younger age interested.  Numerous filmmakers attempted to imitate Nayagan or create a spin-off, but they were never able to match Kamal Haasan's cult hit. 

Kamal added that Mani Ratnam's directing abilities had significantly improved.  In actuality, everyone believed that Mani Ratnam's career was coming to an end as well.  Because all of Mani's films in nearly ten years, with the exception of Ok Kanmani, were considered failures, with the exception of the most recent Ponniyin Selvan.  Even the PS franchise launched to harsh reviews in tamil and failed miserably in Telugu.  The movie somehow got mani ratnam back into the game.  Mani must once again establish himself as a successful director with Thug Life. 

The fans are concerned about two things in such a situation.  The first is Kamal's most recent strategy of overhyping the movies in order to promote them.  Everyone agrees that Kamal should discuss movies and their production rather than assuming the role of marketing whiz overnight.  The second worrying element is Kamal's recent declaration that Thug Life will surpass Nayagan.  Everyone is questioning whether Thug Life has the potential to be a fantastic film after comparing it to Kamal's statements during indian 2.
