Protesters have recorded footage on smartphones, in which protesters are seen waving Mexican flags and some had their faces covered with masks. Online videos showed that a part of the boulevard had to be closed due to the increasing tension between protesters and federal agents.
Trump administration's strict action: Deployment of 2,000 National Guard
After the incidents of confrontation, the trump administration announced the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops on saturday (7 june 2025). Trump's border chief tom Homan confirmed this on Fox News, which was aimed at assisting federal agents and strengthening crowd control. President trump, in his response to Truth Social, said that if the governor of california and the Mayor of Los Angeles cannot do their job, then the federal government will intervene. It is clear from this statement that the federal government now intends to take action on its own terms rather than the state.
What is California's reaction to Trump's decision?
California governor Gavin Newsom called this action of the trump administration deliberately provocative. He believes that this step is going to provoke the situation more rather than calm it down. In the view of the state government and the local administration, the heavy presence of federal forces and the deployment of armed soldiers is akin to a political show of strength, which raises questions about the security situation of the state.
