Defence minister rajnath singh, in a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Dong Jun in Qingdao on june 26, proposed that india and china should resolve 'complex issues' under a well-organised framework by taking steps to reduce tensions on the borders and revive the existing system of demarcation of borders. Regarding this, China said on monday (June 30, 2025) that the border dispute with india is complex and it will take time to resolve itbut at the same time it also expressed its desire to discuss the demarcation of borders and maintain a peaceful situation.

India-China border dispute will end

Singh and Dong held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference in Qingdao, in which maintaining peace and stability on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was discussed. When asked about China's reaction to the Defence Minister's remarks, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, "I can tell you that china and india have established a special team on border-related issues and have agreed on political parameters and guiding principles for resolving China-India border-related issues."

She said that there is a diplomatic and military communication mechanism between the two sides at various levels. Ning said, "China is ready to maintain dialogue with india on issues including demarcation of borders and border management, maintain peace and stability in border areas and promote cross-border exchanges and cooperation."

There will be peace and stability on the border

When asked about the delay in resolving the border issue despite 23 rounds of special representative-level talks, Ning said, "The border question is complex and takes time to resolve. The positive side is that both countries have already established mechanisms at various levels for intensive dialogue. We hope that india will work with china in this direction, continue dialogue on relevant issues and maintain peace and stability in the border areas.'

The 23rd meeting as special representatives was held between National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign minister Wang Yi in december last year. This was the first meeting of the special representatives after the confrontation in the western sector of the India-China border areas in 2020.

India will move towards building good relations with the neighboring country

According to a statement issued by india, in the meeting with Dong, the Defense minister emphasized the need to create 'good neighborhood conditions' to maintain good relations and invited 'ground level action' to overcome the 'lack of trust' resulting from the standoff in eastern Ladakh in 2020.

The meeting between rajnath singh and Dong came amid efforts between New delhi and beijing to reset relations after india and china agreed in october last year to end the military standoff at the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
