The Bharat Bandh can have a wide impact across the country on July 9 today. This bandh has been called on the call of a joint platform of 10 central trade unions and farmers' organizations. The protesting organizations are protesting against the policies of the central government, which they consider anti-labor, anti-farmer and pro-corporate.
Who is participating in this strike?
Around 25 crore employees and rural laborers from banking, transport, postal services, coal mining and construction sectors are participating in this strike. This is likely to affect public services in many states.
What will remain open and closed?
Schools, colleges and private offices are expected to remain open normally, but normal life may be affected due to disruption in transport, bank and postal services.
Impact on power supply possible
Bharat Bandh may also affect power supply. More than 27 lakh employees associated with the power sector are going to join this nationwide strike, which may disrupt power supply in many states.
According to trade unions, there will be a large-scale participation of electricity workers in this strike organized against the anti-labor policies of the central government. In such a situation, there is a possibility of power cut or disruption of services in many areas.
Bharat Bandh may also affect rail services
Railway unions have not formally announced their participation in Bharat Bandh, but the strike may have an indirect effect on train services. There is no possibility of bringing the entire railway network to a standstill, yet there may be delays in trains on some routes, crowds on platforms or local blockages. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their route before traveling.
Confusion over Bharat Bandh in Kerala
Kerala Transport minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar has said that KSRTC buses will run normally on wednesday (July 9) as no strike information has been received from the unions, but the trade unions have termed the minister's statement as false. They say that the strike has already been informed and KSRTC employees will join the Bharat Bandh.
What do the unions say?
This movement has also received support from the United Kisan Morcha, Agricultural Labor Union, and many regional organizations. The unions say that this protest is about issues such as changes in labor laws, privatization of public sectors, expansion of contract jobs and unemployment.
