Former indian all-rounder and current President of the Board of Control for cricket in india (BCCI), Roger Binny, is set to step down from his post as he turns 70 on July 19, 2025. Appointed as the 36th President of the bcci in october 2022, Binny succeeds former india captain Sourav Ganguly. During his nearly three-year tenure, the indian team won the 2024 t20 world cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Also, the launch of the Women's Premier League was a major event under his leadership. However, his tenure has now come to an end due to a mandatory provision in the BCCI's constitution.
The age limit clause, which was added to the bcci constitution, approved by the supreme court in 2016 following the recommendations of the Justice R.M. lodha Committee, states that no officer can continue in office after attaining the age of 70. According to bcci guidelines, a person must: Be an indian citizen. Not be 70 years of age or above. Not be bankrupt or mentally ill. Not be a minister, public servant, or an officer of any sports body. Must not have served the bcci for more than 9 years in total. Thus, following Binny's resignation, bcci vice-president Rajiv Shukla is the frontrunner to take over as the interim president. Shukla, 65, previously served as the IPL president.
He is currently a member of parliament and a senior leader of the congress party. Shukla can hold the post until the next full-time president is elected at the BCCI's annual general meeting in september 2025. As per the bcci constitution, Binny will be ineligible for the post on his 70th birthday, and Shukla can fill the spot.
