Clouds have burst at five places in Himachal on wednesday amid the orange alert of heavy rains issued by the Meteorological Department. Heavy damage has been caused by a cloudburst in Bhimdwari and Nanti of Shrikhand, Pooh of Kinnaur, Mayad of Lahaul, and the Tirthan Valley of Kullu. Two sheds were washed away in Ganvi in the flood caused by a cloudburst in Bhimdwari and Nanti, while six were submerged in water. A bridge was damaged here. Water entered the police post, which came under the grip of the flood. Tilla and Dogra bridges in Banjar of the Tirthan Valley have also been damaged. Bagipul market has been evacuated due to overflowing of the Kurpan Khad of Nirmand. Five vehicles and four cottages were washed away in the Tirthan Valley of Kullu. No one was in the cottages during this time.
Karpat village in the Mayad Valley of Lahaul has been evacuated, and 22 families have been shifted to safer places. Machinery of the company engaged in Rishi Dogri road construction for the ITBP camp was washed away in the flood in Hojo Nala due to a cloudburst in Pooh of Kinnaur. Five employees of the company are also trapped; they are being rescued. Along with cloudburst at five places, heavy rains occurred in many areas of the state, including Shimla, on Wednesday.
Due to heavy rains and landslides, 323 roads, including two national highways, have been closed in the state. Along with this, 70 electricity transformers and 130 drinking water schemes have come to a standstill. There is a drinking water crisis along with a power outage in many areas. A cloudburst occurred in the Shrikhand and Nanti areas of the Rampur subdivision under the Nirmand development block at around 5 pm on Wednesday. This caused flooding in the Kurpan and Ganvi ravines. The bridge was damaged due to rising water in Ganvi Ravine. Houses adjacent to the ravine have been evacuated. Greenco Company's intake has also been damaged. So far, no loss of life has been reported in these areas.
A cloudburst occurred near Majhalli village of Mashiyar panchayat in Bathadhar area of Tirthan valley of Banjar in Kullu district. This caused flooding in Phalachan Ravine. This created panic among the people. Two bridges have broken here. Karpat, Chingut, and Udgose villages have been affected due to a cloudburst in Mayad valley. People's lands have been washed away in the flood of water. The administration has given interim assistance of Rs 10,000 to each family as relief material to the affected people. The flood in the Mayad valley on tuesday night has also disrupted life. The administration has evacuated Karpat village and has kept all 22 affected families in a safe place. However, the villagers had to spend tuesday night in tents.
On the other hand, light rain has continued in the kangra district since wednesday morning. Due to bad weather and low visibility, an indigo flight from delhi to kangra airport was cancelled. Due to rain, three kutcha houses were razed to the ground in the district, while 16 other houses and 21 cow shelters, along with two kitchens, were damaged. The torrential rain in Chamba district on tuesday night damaged the rooms, security walls, and kitchens of 18 schools. The security wall of a cow shelter and a kutcha house were damaged. In Hamirpur, two pucca houses and seven kutcha houses were damaged. Two huts and four cow shelters were also damaged.

The weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain on thursday in the three districts of Himachal: Chamba, kangra, and Mandi. The yellow alert will remain in other districts. There is a possibility of light rain in Sirmaur, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, kangra, and Chamba districts on 15 August. The rain is forecast to continue in the state till 19 August.
In Himachal, 241 people have lost their lives from 20 june to 12 august in this monsoon season. 326 people have been injured. 36 people are still missing. During this period, 115 people have died in road accidents. So far, 2,507 kutcha-pucca houses and shops have been damaged due to cloudbursts, landslides, and floods. 2,043 cow shelters have also been damaged. The total loss figure has reached Rs 2,031 crore.
