Karur Stampede Tragedy: Politics, Allegations & cbi Probe – Key Highlights in Bullet Points

Incident Overview

On september 27, a stampede occurred during a public rally organized by actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, TVK, in Karur, tamil Nadu.

41 people lost their lives, and many others were injured.

The event drew thousands of people, many of whom arrived in the morning and waited without food or water.

Supreme court Orders cbi Probe

The supreme court intervened, ordering a cbi investigation into the incident.

The court stressed the need for a fair and transparent probe.

The investigation will be conducted under the supervision of three retired judges, a rare move in single-state incidents.

TVK’s Allegations of Conspiracy

TVK General Secretary Adhav arjun alleged a political conspiracy behind the stampede.

He claimed that DMK used the police to treat TVK workers like terrorists.

Adhav denied claims that Vijay arrived late and said he was there between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., within police-set timings.

He accused the DMK of trying to suppress TVK and arresting its key leaders to weaken the party.

He noted that TVK leaders avoided the site post-accident due to police warnings about safety concerns.

On october 1, a petition was filed in the supreme court seeking justice for the victims.

DMK’s Response and Criticism of Vijay

DMK senior leader TKS Elangovan questioned the need for a cbi probe in a single-state incident.

He blamed Vijay's delayed arrival (around 7:30 p.m.) for the tragedy, saying the crowd waited too long in harsh conditions.

Elangovan insisted that Vijay must answer in court for his role in the incident.

Political Heat Intensifies

With both parties trading accusations, the Karur tragedy has become a political flashpoint.

All eyes are now on the cbi investigation to reveal the truth and deliver justice to the victims’ families.
