US Military Buildup Near Venezuela

Operation Southern Spear Details

Strike Group commander Rear Admiral Paul Lanzillotta emphasized the mission strengthens US defenses against narco-terrorism.
Admiral Alvin Holsey called the deployment a strong message of US resolve against regional destabilizing threats.
Joint Exercises in Trinidad
Trinidad and Tobago, only seven miles from venezuela, is hosting joint training exercises with the US military.
Foreign minister Sean Sobers stated exercises focus on combating violent crime and drug trafficking.
US Marines, already stationed off Venezuela’s coast, will participate in these drills.
Venezuela denounced these exercises as direct aggression.
US Training in Panama
The US is increasing training programs in panama and reactivating a jungle warfare training center.
