· 2 tsp baking powder

· ½ tsp salt

· ½ cup milk

· 1 large egg

· 2 tbsp melted butter or oil

· 1 tsp vanilla extract

· oil for frying

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

2. Add milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until a soft dough forms.

3. If sticky, sprinkle a little extra flour; don’t over-knead.

2. Shape the Doughnuts

· Roll dough to about ½-inch thickness.

· Cut rounds using a cookie cutter or glass.

· Optionally, cut a small circle in the center to make classic doughnut shapes.

3. Fry the Doughnuts

· Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

· Fry doughnuts 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.

· Remove and drain on paper towels.

4. Sugar Coating

· While slightly warm, roll the doughnuts in sugar for a classic sugared finish.

Tips for Perfect Doughnuts

· Oil temperature matters: Medium heat prevents doughnuts from absorbing too much oil.

· Uniform size: Cut doughnuts evenly for consistent cooking.

· Optional spices: Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to sugar for extra flavor.

· Baked version: Brush doughnuts with a little melted butter and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes for a lighter option.

Health Benefits

· Portion-friendly: Small homemade doughnuts let you enjoy treats without excess sugar.

· Control ingredients: Homemade doughnuts avoid preservatives and artificial flavors found in store-bought ones.

· Optional baked version: Reduces oil content, making them lower in calories.

· Spices like cinnamon/nutmeg: Aid digestion, improve blood sugar control, and add antioxidants.
