After a 12-month delay, the tokyo Olympics are officially started, and the massive sports event has already given people all around the globe something to talk about.

The 32nd edition of the event is full of drama and excitement, from marriage proposals to funny replies from athletes and coaches. The newest topic of conversation is Team USA's face masks.


The unusual piece of podium fashion from Team USA was picked up by netizens on the first night of swimming finals at the tokyo 2020 Olympics.


The mask had an oval form with diamond patterns on it, similar to a typical KN95 mask. While many people praised the mask's design because of the extra room it offers around the nose and mouth, others were less enthusiastic. The white mask with red lettering spelling out "USA" is voluminous, protruding approximately an inch in front of the face. Nike has designed this mask with pleats that mimic Japanese origami folds. "The lightweight, mesh mask's distinctive origami-inspired shape provides for ideal airflow and air volume," the firm claimed.

"I believe they're meant to be comfortable and match the uniform's style," said Jon Mason, a spokesman for the united states Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
