Madras diabetes Research Foundation did a research on patients of diabetes. It has been revealed in this research that only one-third of the patients with diabetes in india try to control this disease. The research also revealed that less than half of the people have good control of blood pressure and cholesterol. 113,043 people from 30 states of the country were included in this research. This is the first such research, in which people from all over the country were included.

Research sample data
In this research conducted by the indian Council of Medical Research, adults of 20 years of age and above were included in 30 states and union territories of the country. In which samples of 33,537 urban and 79,506 rural residents were taken. A sample of 5,789 patients suffering from diabetes was taken in this research.

Research Conclusion
This research found that 36.3 percent of the population suffering from diabetes achieved good glycemic control. With this, 48.8 percent achieved good blood pressure control and 41.5 percent achieved cholesterol control.
It has also been revealed that only 6.7 percent of the population uses a blood glucose monitor to check their blood sugar level at home. Of the patients taking insulin, only 36.9 percent monitor their blood glucose. That too when guidelines have been given to check every day.
The research further revealed that less than 20 percent of the population consumes three servings of fruits and vegetables per day. While the WHO suggests five servings. It was also revealed that less than 25 percent of diabetic patients do physical activity or exercise. The results of the study have been published in The Lancet diabetes & Endocrinology.
