Every night during month of Ramadan, most of Indian-administered Kashmir remains in deep slumber. It would be the drummers who awake Muslims for the pre-dawn meals. Sahar Khan is one such drummer and he calls Muslims for Pre-dawn meals. This a century old tradition followed during Holy month of Ramadan.
Abdul Samod Lone is in this profession for two decades
Most of the Muslims never eat or drink water during daylight in this period. Most of the drummers are poor. Mr.Wani (39) lives in a two room building at Pampore with his wife, children, big brother and ailing mother. He took the job of drummer 7 years ago as the previous drummer kicked the bucket.

Mr.Wani along with his cousin walks across the street and he wakes up believers. He said, "These streets are deserted in the night. The political situation of Kashmir is so fragile. Sometimes fear consumes me; but then I think about my children.
I just can't afford to miss the opportunity of earning some money for them." He also said about the money he earned during Last Ramadan. He said, "Some times people are too generous and during last Ramadan I made 15,000 bucks."
