Labour Day : “Without labour, nothing prospers”!!!
We commemorate international Workers' Day, or Labour Day, on May 1st of each year. This day reminds workers of their rights and gives them credit for their services to society, which are two important goals.
The origins of Labor Day
The American struggle for workers' rights in the 19th century is where Labour Day got its start. Almost 200,000 workers went on strike on May 1st, 1886, seeking an eight-hour workweek. This movement culminated in the Haymarket Affair when it turned violent in Chicago. When a bomb went off, a calm gathering in Chicago's Haymarket Square took a fatal turn. As it became known, the Haymarket Affair claimed the lives of protestors and police officers alike. In honor of the labor movement and the Haymarket event, May 1st was designated as Workers' Day by the international Socialist Conference in 1889. In 1890, a formal celebration was held after a year's delay.
Importance of Labor Day
Through enormous labor, workers have made a substantial contribution to the development of the country. In addition to honoring laborers' dedication, Labour Day seeks to inform them of their rights and prevent them from being taken advantage of. It is also intended to motivate initiatives aimed at improving laborers' working conditions and advancing their careers.
Festivities
Labor Day is a national holiday in a lot of nations. On this day, a number of seminars and events are planned to honor the contributions and accomplishments of employees. To spread awareness of workers' rights and issues, some locations hold rallies and display posters and banners.
