Dadasaheb Phalke opened a production house named 'Hindustan Films' in which money from some industrialists of mumbai was invested. He always insisted on making films based on mythological stories. He made films like 'Lanka Dahan', 'Mohini Bhasmasur', 'Kalia Mardan', 'Krishna' and all these were silent films.
Time passed and people started joining this line and talking films came. Later Phalke resigned from 'Hindustan Films' and also stopped making films. Phalke had made only one or two speaking films, after which his health also started deteriorating.
Dadasaheb Phalke passes away
When different people came into the film industry, they started making films as per their own. Many people dismissed Phalke as old fashioned. He had become quite lonely in his last days, although he was happy that he had done what he wanted to do. dadasaheb phalke died on 16 february 1944. Later the freedom struggle took place and people forgot him. However, in the year 1969, the government of india again remembered him and announced 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award'. Since then, about 54 artists have been honored with the 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award'.
