The countless film songs that we have been hearing in Telugu one man has a major role to play in that. He is Veturi Sundararama Murthy and today is his birth anniversary. He was born in a traditional Telugu Brahmin family and did his education in Chennai, Vijayawada etc. He started his career as a journalist with Andhra Prabha in 1952.  Later, he joined Andhra Patrika wherein he became friends with Bapu and Mullapudi Venkataramana. In 1962, Veturi became the first and only Telugu journalist to interview the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Veturi made his debut as a lyricist in 1974 and wrote the first song ‘Bharatanaari Charitamu’.  One man who played a major role in Veturi’s life is the legend N T Rama Rao. He discovered the talent in Veturi and gave him a lot of encouragement in film industry. This led to the birth of many unforgettable songs with poetic feel for Telugu audience.
