The central government is considering selling small-scale LPG cylinders through ration shops. Ration shops are functioning across the country for the benefit of the poor, the simple and the middle class. 

Here you can get food items at affordable prices under the National Food Security Act. Central and state governments are subsidizing this. It is noteworthy that in some states rice is also provided free of cost.

Central Government Scheme

A public holiday has been declared on the 6th due to three consecutive days of extra working hours. It has been reported that the ration shops will be functioning as usual from november 7. The central government plans to retail small-scale cooking gas cylinders (LPG) through ration shops.

Cooking gas cylinder

Already the price of a cooking gas cylinder is approaching a thousand rupees. Thus poor and middle-class families are greatly affected. In this context, it is said that bringing small quantities of cooking gas cylinders for sale through ration shops would be of great benefit to the public.

Consultative meeting

The consultative meeting was held yesterday via video conferencing chaired by Union Food and Public Distribution Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey. It was attended by officials from the Federal Department of Food and Consumer Affairs, Electronics and IT, Finance, Petroleum and Natural Gas Departments and various state governments.

Mudra loan scheme

The next step is to consider bringing in a plan to retail small-scale cooking gas cylinders through ration shops. Adequate assistance will be provided to interested State Governments and Union Territories. It is also said that steps will be taken to provide Mudra loans to ration shop dealers for capital augmentation.

Oil companies have welcomed this. States and Union Territories are ready to work together in this regard and will provide all necessary assistance.
