Nehru's father donated the entire property. Nehru continued to serve selflessly throughout his life as a Freedom fighter and later as Prime Minister. Indira also never got a chance to do business or build wealth. The question can trouble people that they did not earn money and did not create wealth, then in today's date where did the heirs of the gandhi family come from? And in the case of National Herald, in which rahul gandhi is being questioned by the ED for two consecutive days - how many thousand crores of rupees is he alone. Who is its owner? To really understand things, one has to go back to the era of Nehru and british India behind Indira.

Nehru formed a company named Associated Journals Limited in 1937. This company used to publish the english newspaper 'National Herald'. The company also published Quami ekta in urdu and Navjeevan in Hindi. Nehru and 5000 freedom fighters were shareholders in Associated Journals Limited. He was also the board chairman of the company. However, the company was not owned by any one person. The purpose of the newspaper was to accelerate the pace of the freedom struggle. However, till 1942 the content of the newspaper kept troubling the British. Eventually, the british decided to ban the National Herald after coming to a halt.

The newspapers of Associated Journals Limited resumed publication in 1945. Nehru himself used to write editorials and during that time many celebrities wrote for the National Herald. However, when Nehru became the Prime Minister, he resigned from the post of Board Chairman in Associated Journals Limited. Despite this, the publication of the newspaper continued and more than one veteran editor became more than one in all three languages. After independence, in 1962, 0.3365 acres of land was given to Associated Journals Limited on the Delhi-Mathura road. In 1967, it was converted into a permanent lease deed and a condition was laid that the company would not use the plot of the building in any other way. That is, the newspaper will be published only.
