The doctors of the All india Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital Delhi (Delhi) joined the twins from the chest and upper abdomen. Successfully separated sisters Riddhi and Siddhi. Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery Dr. meenu Bajpayee told that deepika Gupta of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh was four months pregnant. It was only then that he found out that he had twins conjoined in his womb.


Dr. meenu Bajpai said that later he was advised to go to AIIMS for treatment as there were no advanced medical facilities locally. Both these girls were born on July 7 last year and both stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for five months. They were separated from each other on june 8 after a nine-hour surgery. The first birthday of both the girls was celebrated in the hospital. Additional professor of Pediatric Surgery Dr. Prabuddha Goyal said, 'This discrepancy was strange where the ribs, liver, diaphragm, etc. met each other. Both the hearts were very close to each other i.e. they were almost touching. He said that these girls were operated on at the age of 11 months when they were in a position to tolerate the surgery. Dr. Bajpai said that the surgery was done under 'general anesthesia' at AIIMS' new Matru & Bal Khand. This surgery took nine hours. If the duration of anesthesia before and after the surgery is added, it is about twelve and a half hours. Both of these girls are still hospitalized, but they are now in good condition. His parents deepika and Ankur Gupta breathed a sigh of relief after the surgery was successful. The couple thanked the doctors wholeheartedly for saving the girls. deepika said, 'When this surgery was done, we were very worried. But thanks to god and doctors that our girls got a new lease on life.'
